Don’t forget about The Roswell-tree Road Race to be held this July 4th at Roswell Park that benefits The Atlanta Community Food Bank. This great event is a fun run in the truest sense. You see everyone who signs up is placed in a division that includes only them - which ensures that when they complete the race they will have won their division. Imagine that, a race that you are guaranteed to win. There are a few other fun and silly rules to abide by or not. For more information contact Sally Jamara at her website www.roswelltree.org
On tonight’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy learn all about Lisa Lillien, the Hungry-Girl’s book tour. Lisa is finishing up
the promotional book tour of her New York Times Bestselling book Hungry-Girl: Recipes and Survival Strategies for Guilt-Free Eating in the Real World.
Lisa started Hungry-Girl in 2004. She said people look to her as a friend, nit some preachy professional dietitian. She offers up great advice in a friendly, fun informative way each and every day with her newsletter.
She said one thing that has surprised her on the book tour was when a man approached her at a book signing in New York and told her he lost 100 pounds and had some amazing before pictures to prove it. Lisa is working on the sequel to the book and it should be out next year.
Lisa also gave our listeners her top 3 ingredients that should be in your cupboard if you want to cut some serious calories. We also talked about the recent theft of her favorite pants from her dry cleaner. The theft was caught on video and you can check it out on You Tube. To learn all things Hungry-Girl please go to her website and subscribe to her daily newsletter at www.hungry-girl.com
We kicked off the show with our good friend Tiffany Davis, Atlanta Editor of the Daily Candy. She had some great tips on how to stay at home and have your own Foodie Vacation. She called it a Vacay, but she is much hipper than me and can pull that off. She also told us how she’s dating a chef and now all her tips seem to be about food. Please go to www.dailycandy.com and subscribe to Daily Candy Atlanta edition to get Tiffany’s great tips.
Next up we had on Dr Pete Scire with Brain Balance Center. The Brain Balance Program is a comprehensive program which
incorporates a unique multi-faceted approach to the assessment and the development of individualized intervention plans for children affected by the Neurobehavioral/Developmental Disorders such as ADD/ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, Tourrette’s Syndrome, PDD, Autism, Processing Disorders, and Learning Disabilities (i.e. Dyslexia).
Based upon the most current research their program works from a brain based model which recognizes that many of the children that are diagnosed with these disorders suffer a foundational imbalance or under-connectivity of electrical (brain) activity. This imbalance or under-connectivity occurs within and between the two halves (hemispheres) and/or large networks of the brain.
They believe that it is this imbalance of function, within and between the two halves of the brain which is often responsible for many if not all of the physical, cognitive or mental, and/or behavioral difficulties related to these disorders.
Based upon their comprehensive assessment the Brain Balance Program develops and implements a unique individualized program for each and every child. Each child’s program addresses their specific areas of difficulties related to the physical (sensory/motor) needs, bio-nutritional (digestive difficulties, nutritional deficiencies) needs, as well as neuro-cognitive (academics and behavioral) needs. For more information please go to their website www.brainbalancecenters.com
Next we had on Sarah Brown with Planet Smoothie. Planet Smoothie is Kathie’s favorite Smoothie joint. She loves the Wheat Grass. Dr Fitness and her kept obsessing about how much they liked the smell. Sarah told us all about 99 cent Smoothie Days at Planet Smoothie and you can get inexpensive smoothies and not little ones either you get 22 ounces of smoothie goodness. I called her a Smoothie Sommelier and you can bet you can be seeing that show up in their ads soon. The nice thing about Planet Smoothie is that they have so many low cal and healthy choices their. And they don’t give you a hard time if you want to mix and match ingredients. Like substituting blackberries for strawberries to save a few calories. For more information please go to their website www.planetsmoothie.com. They also have all the nutritional information on their as well.
