In today’s Wellness Minute we explain how to protect yourself from food poisoning. In an effort to protect families from themselves this holiday season we share our food poisoning protection plan. The number one tip is to not leave food out at room temperature for more than a couple of hours – if food is left out for more than 4 hours you are really pressing your luck. Also you want to invest in a food thermometer – And then you have to actually use it instead of burying it in that drawer with all the other kitchen gadgets you don’t use. Food is done when the insides are between 140-165 degrees – depending on the meat. So unless you are one of those raw foodists cook your meat up to the recommended temperature. For turkey it is 165 or higher in order to kill the bacteria than can be on the surface of the turkey. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips.
