On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on journalist and author Sam MacDonald who talked about
his book The Urban Hermit. In it Sam takes us through his journey from being a semi athletic teen to being an underemployed Yale party guy who was in debt up to his ears. Plus as a bonus he was the guy we all know who ate and drank himself to a morbidly obese level. But his story doesn’t end their like most people’s (Fat Guy included). Sam saw the light and then concocted a crazy diet with the help of a nutritionist friend and he lost all the excess weight, he became a successful writer and he even got the girl – all in all Sam has become a happily married debt free semi-success like the rest of his Yale buddies. But the punch line is that he did this transformation by eating just $8 worth of lentils, hard boiled eggs and tuna fish sandwiches each week for almost a year. It is basic math that if you can survive on 800 calories a day like Sam you too can lose 100+ pounds like he did. And he has kept the weight off for about 10 years. The Urban Hermit is a hilarious piece of non-fiction that shows that you can lose weight and keep it off (and save lots of money) by spending $8 a week on food. While even Sam doesn’t recommend you follow his weight loss plan – it did work for him. Please go to Amazon and check this book out.
