In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some of their best summer running tips. It takes about 3 weeks to get used to the change in temperature. So slowly increase your outdoor running time over the first month of the summer to get used to the heat. No one is Superman the extra heat and humidity will effect your body – in fact as you age it effects your body even more. If you run in the day remember to wear sunblock, sunglasses and the right wicking clothes. Stay hydrated and do what the good doctor does and run through people’s sprinklers in their yard to cool off. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. Too true about the humidity, it can be a real drain on your energy if you are not used to it. The best tip you offer, I believe, is the one about running through other people’s sprinklers, what a great idea. I guess you just have to watch out for the family dog that might be tied up nearby and also willing to have a run through the sprinker – perhaps after you!
I usually run early evening around dusk and I find that it is just about the right temperature for me, running in the daytime is totally out of the question it is just way to hot.
I will try out the sprinkler tip, after checking for dogs first!
Thanks
