| Not quite. Even if it were a "side effect" of some other cognitive process (though that line of thinking isn't quite accurate, but that discussion is a long one and isn't necessary here), there's no reason that it wouldn't be selected out of the gene pool if it didn't have a positive effect on gene transmission. Furthermore, the ability to appreciate art and beauty would surely not be selected for at a greater rate than the negative effects of depression would be selected against. |

Chewbacca plays chess, then rips your arms off. If he loses...
It's a terrible thing to say especially coming from a family member and so soon after the event...... but it is is most certainly true just as it is for all the other stars who've died before their time - Holly, Elvis, Lennon, Cobain, Hicks etc etc. The fact is that dying is a very good career move!

“10% then, not bad, but still a small percentage of total accidents. I wonder how many of those accidents were caused by large heavy vehicles being harder to control? How many of those accidents might have been avoided if both cars were smaller and had less inertia and lower centers of gravity? How many of those deaths happened in old small cars that are significantly less safe than newer small cars? I guess what I'm trying to get at is how many of those 4000 deaths would have been avoided if the driver of the small car had a bigger car or if the driver of the big car had a smaller car? Frankly, this whole thing smacks of selfishness. The flip side of this argument is that big cars pose a danger to small cars. "***** everyone else, I got my 5 ton gas guzzler so get the ***** out of my way!" Small cars can be dangerous partly because of bigger cars. It's like an arms race. Everyone has a 2 ton car so you go and buy a 3 ton car then everyone else goes out and buys a 4 ton car which prompts you to get a 5 ton car to protect yourself, then everyone goes out and gets a 6 ton car and now you're the one, again in danger of being smooshed by giant cars. So you go out and get a 7 ton car etc....

Banned: Jack Sparrow & Tarzan."Pirates Booty: Confessions of Jack Sparrow at Disney Land"http://www.lamag.com/featuredarticle.aspx?id=7016& ...--On Dress Code--"The male character they had pulled was Tarzan. He moved around the tree house dressed in just a butt flap. Disney had hired these good-looking, muscular guys—even airbrushing abs on—and apparently there was excessive pinching of Tarzan’s ass by the park’s female visitors. Knowing all this, and also knowing what women were like around Jack at the Renaissance Faire, I told the other guys, “Don’t complain if girls flirt with you too much. If you do, they’ll pull the character from the park.”--On Facial Hair--"When training started, I found out the park allowed mustaches but had a no-facial-hair policy for all employees. I had the Jack goatee, and I threw a small fit. No facial hair for this character? Why would you want to glue on a mustache in summer? You can see the glue! I took a day to consider whether I wanted the job. I walked the park, and suddenly I saw the most amazing Belle I’d ever seen. Beautiful. She was coming out of the characters’ entrance near Star Tours and bantering with Push the Talking Trash Can. An entire crowd was being entertained, and that just sold me. I thought, “I want to work here.”"--On Dating--We were told Disney prefers that the characters don’t date, and the characters even have a slogan: “Don’t Date Disney,” or DDD. Dating at Disneyland is difficult. But I already had a thing for the Ariels when I arrived. They have red hair, and I love red hair. After I met my girlfriend, an Ariel, and we started dating, we would need to talk to each other backstage under our coats because employees would try to snap photos with their phones—Ariel and Jack together.--On Myspace--We were also not allowed to post pictures of ourselves in costume on MySpace. But I had a picture of Ariel and me kissing backstage, a photo I kept on my private page. I was warned by friends to take it down, and I did, but not before someone made a copy of it and turned it in to Disney. Management pulled me in and talked to me about it.--On Blow Jobs--Here’s a napkin someone wrote on for me: “I will give you a blow job on your break, so sexy! Kim—714-XXX-XXXX.” I would also get offers from women in my ear: “Anything you want, just find me.” I had a girl who had turned 18 the day before. She was with a high school group, and she wrote down her room number at the Downtown Disney hotel. I had a lady hump my leg one day in the park..
You know what would help the Film production industry recover from all the revenue they are supposedly losing from illegal downloading? Cut all these big name celebrities pay rate in half. Oh sure, SAG will have a fit, but it's not like the world is lacking in people willing to act. Not all celebrities are pricks, but a good majority take egotism to another level, and sometimes people need a reality check to wrangle them back in. Apparently, Kevin Spacey thinks he's above the law? Who else have we heard about that did that: Shia Lebouf, Brittany Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson.... The list goes on for quite a while. If anyone else had been breaking the law in that establishment, the manager would have called the cops. Instead, he fired the guy who was doing his job. This ***** is getting out of hand.!

So many fallacies in this article... Evolutionary Psychology has become a way to claim that a scientist's individual biases are natural law. Oddly, conservative values are the one's usually "proven". In this case: "use your negative mood to accept the work you can get. Accept that you work for the economy rather than the economy working for you, and do nothing that might change that." Blame the victim. This author makes no distinction between brains that are mentally ill with chronic depression and transient episodic depression. So, to those brains that are structurally ill, ignore the illness, you are to blame for not using the benefits of your depression. Blame the victim. The author of this “science” article reminds me of the George Carlin joke about the fact that someone, somewhere has an appointment tomorrow with the world’s worst doctor. Process of elimination, you know it's true.Buried, not for being lame or inaccurate, but just buried.
