On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on our pal Dr Cory Kidd, inventor of Autom the most awesome robot
and your personal weight loss coach who will help you lose weight. Since most people can only stay on a diet for less than a month Cory decided to do something about it. His robot has a 3-5 minute conversation with you each day to ask about your day – what exercise you did, what you ate, how you’re feeling, etc. Autom then shares her thoughts about what you did and gives you friendly advice and encouragement. All the research shows that when you add this kind of interaction then people will stay compliant with their weight loss program much longer than if they are doing it on their own. In fact most people who participated in the testing did not want to give the robot back. We have been following Autom’s rise since 2007 and she is getting ready for the big time. Cory is in Hong Kong right now putting the finishing touches on her. Check out her video demonstration at his website www.myautom.com

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy shares tips to help you sleep better. A great tip for the adult or child who is having trouble sleeping through the night is to find time to exercise during the day. A recent sleep study showed that children and adults fell asleep faster, slept longer and slept deeper when they exercised that day. So if you have millions of thoughts racing through your head and are rolling around all night long skip the Ambien or Tylenol PM and go for a jog during the day… you’ll sleep better at night. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy shares their favorite Wii fitness tips. Using the Wii for fitness is definitely possible. It is especially good for moving totally sedentary kids and adults to a more active lifestyle. Plus it gets the whiole family involved with fitness so what could be wrong with that. While you are not going to get the same workout and intensity you would from a spin class at you gym there are several Wii games that can get your heart rate up and give you a pretty good workout. Some fun Wii games that are worth checking out are: Wii Sports Boxing; Wii Dance Town; Wii Island Run and Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2010. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy shares tips to help your kid become more active. This is a little preview of the book we are writing on this subject. Kids need about an hour of moderate intensity exercise daily in order to be healthy and fit but sadly a lot of them are not getting enough. When we say exercise we are not only talking about aerobics classes and playing sports. There are lots of ways to be active that doesn’t require any private lessons, gym memberships or athletic skills. We encourage you to match activities to your child’s interests. Encourage unstructured play. An explore lots of non-traditional sports and activities like rock climbing, gardening, hiking and skateboarding. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips.
