In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain how too many anti oxidant supplements might be bad for you. There is some growing evidence that anti-oxidants in capsule form might impair muscle function over time. Ingesting lots of anti-oxidants might throw off the balance between the pro-oxidants in your body and cause problems. The research only looked at anti-oxidant supplements that might suppress some good stuff in your blood. So be on the safe side and eat more anti-oxidant rich foods rather than take supplements for them. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explains why you should drink more pomegranate juice. As you may remember I shared the simple way to peel a pomegranate a couple of years ago. Click here to read how to peel a pomegranate Now Dr Fitness found research that says drinking pomegranate juice is also good for you – surprise surprise. Pomegranate juice is expensive but it is antioxidant rich and has been shown to inhibit some cancers. The fruit is only available a few months out the year in the late fall – early winter. So if you want your pomegranate fix year round then the juice is pretty much the only way to go. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain the health benefits of cooking your tomatoes. Did you know that cooking tomatoes actually supercharges the antioxidants that are lying dormant inside? Lycopene levels go through the roof when tomatoes are cooked. So start hand crushing those tomatoes and make yourself some homemade fresh tomato sauce. Throw in a little olive oil, some garlic, basil and and onions and you have yourself an antioxidant enriched meal. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. On tonight’s show Doctor Fitness and the Fat Guy get the skinny about the MTV VMA’s from OK GO bass player Tim Nordwind. In a 20 minute interview, Tim shares the details of his most amazing week as a music superstar to date…this week he appeared on the David Letterman show, the MTV Video Music Awards, the Dr. Fitness and the Fat Guy show and in a few days he’ll be on Conan O’Brien’s show. Learn the tip Justin Timberlake shared with OK GO as they rehearsed for the VMA’s. Find out who’s bright idea it was to dance on treadmills and which bands inspired the hottest group around. If you haven’t seen the “Here It Goes Again” video you are the only one. It has been downloaded millions of times. Check that out and more on the official OK GO website www.okgo.net. On their website you can learn how to join their street team, get song lyrics, see tour photos as well as get all their music and merchandise. Check out fellow band member Rusty Ross’ blog at www.thewilltorock.blogspot.com and make a friend with the band on their MySpace page www.myspace.com/okgo. Go to www.burnlounge.com/drfitnessandthefatguy to buy their cd.
We also had on Hope White-Huff who gave the Doctor an antioxidant scan with her Pharmanex BioPhotonic Scanner. Dr. Fitness scored 29,000. Lance Armstrong was over 100,000 so the Doctor needs to do some more work. Hope helps people learn what their antioxidant level is so they can improve it by exercising more, eating more fruits and vegetables and using supplements. Her website is www.ksbwellness.mypharmanex.com. Learn where you can go to get scanned to find your antioxidant level, it just taked a couple of minutes and is painless. You’ll also learn about ways to protect yourself from free radical damage and other anti-aging, healthy living tips.
The Doctor also shared his tips on how to choose the right sneaker to wear when running or exercising in general. He said to make sure you get the right shoe for whatever exercise or sport you are doing. Go to a shoe store that has a treadmill or track so that the shoe salesperson can observe your walking or running style in order to suggest the exact right brand and style for you. You’ll have to listen to get the rest of the tips.
Why does Dr.Fitness have to always bring up either tennis or soccer on every show, it is driving the Fat Guy nuts. Tonight Dr. Fitness was pining for Andre Agassi. Big deal the guy loses a match in the U.S. Open and says he is retired. Boo Hoo. The Doctor was actually weeping as he talked about it.
