On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Christopher McDougall, former war correspondent and now contributing editor for Men’s Health and author of the NY Times Bestseller Born to Run. A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes, And the Greatest Race The World Has Never Seen. Christopher shared his thoughts on the benefits of running barefoot. After suffering from several running related injuries Christopher began researching why an Indian tribespeople in Mexico can run for miles barefoot or in thin soled sandals and they weren’t suffering from the injuries that people in the US suffer from. Just as running was a way of life for these people, Chris found that being sedentary is a way of life for most Americans these days. Christopher determined that running shoes were the problem and he began running barefoot. He found no evidence that running shoes actually prevent injuries. A short time later his injuries went away and he began enjoying long runs again. He has found running barefoot helps him concentrate more on each step and that may help prevent injuries and help him run faster. He recommended the website www.runningbarefoot.org for more information about barefoot running. His book is more about this Indian tribe and his adventures with them. This is where he learned barefoot running and actually saw and took part in an amazing 50+ mile race amongst the tribes. It is Dr Fitness approved you should definitely check it out. It gives runners and aspiring runners something to think about. You can find this awesome book at Amazon and in bookstores everywhere.

The Doctor had his fitness tips again. So we had another installment of …Dr Fitness’ “Things You Can Do Today” To Lose Weight Tomorrow. Here are a few of Dr. Fitness’ secrets about how to start your fitness program…Number 1, consult your doctor before beginning any fitness program. Number 2, find a coach to teach you the proper form before you begin any strength training. Bad form leads to injuries which leads to quitting. And we don’t want you to do that. And Number 3, start slowly. Do not go from not exercising to training like Lance Armstrong. Slow and steady wins the race. Remember you are going to be active for a lifetime go slow and ease your way into it. There were a couple more tips from Dr. Fitness, but you’ll have to listen to the podcast or go to his blog to get the rest.

Kathie was not with us in the studio this week. We missed her. Remember she is one of the top feet and legs model’s out there… she is so hot she got to be a body double for Alyssa Milano a few weeks ago. Be sure to check out Kathie’s website www.getkathie.com. Also check her out on www.RealSavvyMoms.com.

We were happy to give away that free consultation with Jennifer Nicole Lee . The winner was Angela in Enoch, UTAH. She sent in an amazing email that touched Dr Fitness’ heart. Here is some of what she wrote…

“Well, as you guys already know, there are a million plus one websites/blogs out there that can possibly help you lose weight.  I for one don’t have near enough time to peruse them all if I am following your instructions to get up and out to exercise.  I have found that I will make time to listen to your podcast viz iTunes.  I subscribe to nothing else faithfully.  I have however, taking a liking and feel a connection with Jennifer Nicole Lee.  Being a working woman and full time mother blogging is not something that I have made time to do.  I added you to my Myspace blog as well as my Yahoo page as a favorite, and a comment out to my friends at Traineo.  I do spread the word about your podcast to my friends because there is nothing better than hearing Dr. Fitness drool over a hot chick on the air or The Fat Guy laughing at himself.  He may not like people but I can assure you that people like him.  Listening to your show often is what makes life more enjoyable.  Thanks for bringing the laugh back in.”

Man that was so nice. And she isn’t even related to us. So congratulations Angela. Let us know how your consult with Jennifer goes. And eveyone else who entered but did not win. Sorry, there’s always next time.
