On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on our pal Dr Cory Kidd, inventor of Autom the most awesome robot
and your personal weight loss coach who will help you lose weight. Since most people can only stay on a diet for less than a month Cory decided to do something about it. His robot has a 3-5 minute conversation with you each day to ask about your day – what exercise you did, what you ate, how you’re feeling, etc. Autom then shares her thoughts about what you did and gives you friendly advice and encouragement. All the research shows that when you add this kind of interaction then people will stay compliant with their weight loss program much longer than if they are doing it on their own. In fact most people who participated in the testing did not want to give the robot back. We have been following Autom’s rise since 2007 and she is getting ready for the big time. Cory is in Hong Kong right now putting the finishing touches on her. Check out her video demonstration at his website www.myautom.com

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on our good friend Dr Gerard Musante from The Structure House in
Durham NC. Dr Musante is a renowned clinical psychologist who founded Structure House in 1977 and understands firsthand the struggle faced by overweight people. He has devoted his life to developing and teaching the principles of behavior modification. Today his internationally respected weight control program has helped more than 30,000 people change their attitudes, perceptions and lifestyles with diet, exercise and education. He is also the author of The Structure House Weight Loss Plan. He shared some great weight loss tips and explained all that is happening on his new website. You can now go online and create a 28 day action plan so you can develop your own personal plan to lose weight. He also shared his thoughts on the Biggest Loser TV show and programs like that that encourage extreme diet and exercise. He feels on the plus side they inspire people who felt that it was impossible to lose large amounts of weight. But he feels a big negative about those shows are that they downplay the dangers of extreme dieting and exercise and that they are not a good way to keep weight off for the long run. Please check out Dr Musante’s Structure House at www.structurehouse.com

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy shares tips on how your diet can effect your bone health. Building strong bones is important if you want to avoid getting osteoporosis. A recent study found that in Asian countries they don’t consume the amount of dairy we consume here yet they have a low incidence of osteoporosis. The Asian diet consists of low acid foods like fruits and vegetables that help the body consume the calcium they get through the foods they eat. The thinking is that because we consume so much acidic animal protein here we are having a difficult time absorbing the calcium and that is why we suffer from osteoporosis at greater rates. So for good bone health and strong bones to prevent osteoporosis try a low acid diet that is high in fruits and veggies and low in meat. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some of their favorite snacks. Snacking can blow up your diet faster than you can say Ben and Jerry. So when you choose a snack to eat during that mid morning or mid afternoon lull go for something that is nutrient rich but not too filling. Remember, a snack is just a little something to take the edge off your hunger pang until your next meal. Some good easy, quick and healthy snacks are: apple slices with peanut butter; a handful of almonds, walnuts or edamames; dried fruit; rolled up turkey with a bit of avocado or some hummus with carrots. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Thomas Madden, inventor of the Knife and Fork Lift. These barbell
shaped pieces of silverware turn eating into exercise. While all our listeners know Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy have been talking about weighted silverware since we started the show, Thomas actually went out and invented it. He is a doer and we are just dreamers. His mini barbell like fork and knife set weigh 1.5 pounds each and they will definitely slow down your eating, just like we have been saying for years. He also says that by slowing down your eating some people have found that their acid reflux has gotten better as well. This is a great gift for the speedy eaters and for someone who is just getting started on their diet or weight loss program. To learn more please go to his website www.knifeandforklift.com

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy opened the show with a guy who wrote into our website complaining that we should go to diet jail for telling people about Holey Donuts – he also said we were mean to Gary Taubes. This critic has a major man crush on Gary and said we spent too much of the interview goofing on him rather than letting him share his low carb wisdom. He also says our show is a sham and we are the reason everyone is overweight. So you don’t want to miss his part.
The real show began with Rory Freedman, author of the NY Times Bestseller Skinny Bitch who came on to talk about Skinny Bastard. which is that kick in the butt men need to lose wight and get buff. Rory has a bunch of great advice for men who need to drop a few pounds. to learn more about this book please go to www.skinnybastard.net
Next up we had on Robert Davis, author of the Healthy Skeptic. Robert is an award winning health journalist. He shared some tips on how to understand who to believe when it comes to health and science claims. It’s like they said in All The President’s Men – follow the money – who is paying for the study. To learn more about Robert and his book please go to his website www.everwell.com
Next up we had on Thomas Madden, inventor of the Knife and Fork Lift. While all our listeners know Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy have been talking about weighted silverware since we started the show, Thomas actually went out and invented it. He is a doer and we are just dreamers. His mini barbell like fork and knife set will definitely slow down your eating, just like we have been saying for years. To learn more please go to his website www.knifeandforklift.com
We closed the show with Rob Luka, author of the book How to Help Children Overcome Fear in a Medical Setting. Rob is a nurse with lots of first hand experience helping kids feel comfortable at the doctor’s office. He has worked with lots of kids who have juvenile diabetes and has helped their families manage the regular injections and blood testing they have to deal with. To learn more please go to his website www.robluka.com

In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy explain why you should eat more onions. Sure if you don’t know how to chop an onion you’ll have tears running down your cheeks. But that is no excuse not to add onions to your diet. They have lots of health benefits like flavenoids which has been shown to help lower blood pressure, lower your risk of colon cancer and is an anti-bacterial. When picking out an onion avoid the ones that have sprouts coming out of them. And cooking them does lower the vitamin content a little bit. And don’t store them in the refrigerator either. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy opened the show with award winning science journalist Gary Taubes, author of the controversial book Good Calories, Bad Calories. Fats, Carbs and the Controversial Science of Diet and
Health. He believes that the fewer refined carbohydrates we eat, the leaner we will be because carbs increase insulin levels which causes obesity, increases your hunger and decreases your metabolic efficiency. Not only that but he says that refined carbohydrates, starches and sugars are the most likely dietary causes of Alzheimer’s, cancer and other diseases. He says exercise does not make us lose excess fat – it just makes us hungry. And obesity is the result of excess fat accumulation not overeating and not a sedentary lifestyle. So according to Gary eat all the protein you want, he says their is no upper limit on your protein consumption – just avoid the carbs and you’ll lose weight and also be healthier. Put down the broccoli and pick up the pork rinds! His mostly protein based eating plan is a favorite of Atkins and South Beach diet lovers like Jimmy Moore with Livin La Vida Low Carb www.livinlavidalowcarb.com . You can find Gary’s book on Amazon and in bookstores everywhere.

I’d like to give a very special shout out to Bertha from Georgia… she is this week’s winner of a great exercise DVD. She sent in a very kind email saying how much she has enjoyed the show Great job Bertha, keep up the good work and anyone else who wants to win a free exercise dvd please blog about us and email us your weight loss story.

The Fat Guy has been bringing his “A” game to the show….He made me laugh!!!! and laughing burns calories!!!! The lovely Tiffany Davis, Atlanta editor for DailyCandy.com, joined us in the studio again for another fantastic segment on activities you can do that do not feel like exercise plus home spa tips.
On Thursday’s show, the very beautiful Teresa Tapp joined us with an innovative copyrighted series of movements that will help you lose inches without weights, equipment or jumping called T-Tapp. Teresa has a book called “Fit and Fabulous in 15 Minutes” as well as dvds and an information packed website. Please go to her website www.t-tapp.com and you will find all her stuff plus: contests, a ton of testimonials, amazing before and after pictures and a directory of certified T-Tapp trainers and a whole bunch more….She told us how she developed her amazing techniques while working with top models in Europe. I’m talking Claudia Schiffer and others. Remember models really don’t care what they weigh as much as how they fit into their clothes. So Teresa’s T-Tapp is very comprehensive in delivering fat loss, weight loss and inch loss as well as increasing your overall heath, energy and fitness. You don’t have to be superfit to do her technique in fact she had Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy doing some of the exercises on the air. She was talking us through it and the Fat Guy almost did it. I wish we had a webcam so you could have seen it. I can’t wait to get my hands on Teresa’s DVD…my new crush!!!!

And if that wasn’t enough, you listeners were lucky enough to hear the brilliant Dr. Judith Beck, author of “The Beck Diet Solution,” which is rocketing up the bestseller lists. Dr Beck has been appearing everywhere, in fact, when I got home from the show, I opened my Health magazine and there she was in there. Well Dr Beck is an authority in cognitive therapy and she uses those techniques to help people lose weight. This book is a MUST READ on Dr. Fitness’ Top Weight Loss Books. Go to her website www.beckdietsolution.com for great downloads you can use today, information on her book “The Beck Diet Solution” and her new workbook that is coming out soon as well as info on Dr Judith Beck herself, there’s also a blog. It’s worth your time. I was blown away by how helpful this book is and I give it 2 Big Thumbs Up!

We love our Daily Candy and we were lucky enough to have Tiffany Davis from The Daily Candy in our studio…I even included a picture of her!!!! Tiffany leads a life that everyone should be jealous of…I know I am. It is her job to discover the hippest places, the finest restaurants and the coolest clubs. It’s not easy being her. Tonight, Tiffany shared some places you could go in Atlanta to get an unconventional workout. We talked about kickball leagues, we talked about rock climbing centers we even talked about pole dancing and stiletto heel workouts. There were a lot of laughs and a lot of great info. If you are one of few remaining women who don’t subscribe to Daily Candy then hop to it … go to www.DailyCandy.com and sign yourself up. They have city centered issues in a lot of big cities, they have special kid issues and more.
