Do you know how must peoplechoose their primary care doctor or specialist? They open up their PPO provider list and see who is geographically closest. This amazes me especially with the internet as such a valuable tool for finding information. So what is the problem. The internet can be a valuable resource for checking out docs but it is still very hard to navigate and find information on your doctor of choice. the right.
Here are 3 web sites to check out
www.AHRQ.Gov Agency for healthcare research and Quality
www.CMS.HHS.Gov Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
www.CastleConnolly.com There is a subscription required to access this web site.
Here are six important steps all people should take when searching for a top specialist, including:
1. Check for a doctor’s board certification. A medical doctor can choose to practice any branch of specialty whether he is board certified or not.
2. Assess the doctor’s experience in treating the specific medical condition.
3. Check for any disciplinary action against the doctor.
4. Interview the doctor to be certain you feel comfortable with and him/her and that you have confidence in the doctor.
5. How many of particular procedures does doctor perform. If you a getting a knee replacement do you want a doctor that does 2 surgeries/year or someone who does 200/year?
6. Most people chose based on convenience and if doctor is in particular plan. Don’t do this!!! You are making a decision that could very well affect your quality of life for years to come. Don’t base this decision using convenience as the deciding factor.

“The funniest weight loss and fitness radio show on the internet.” Please click on the POD button to listen to the latest Dr. Fitness and the Fat Guy show. Our new and improved podcast is now commercial free and streamlined. This show features Doctor Fitness’ Final Four Reasons you should pick a chiropractor over a regular doctor. Dr. Shafran’s tips this week are 1) go to chiropractor if you have lower back pain or joint injury. 2) chiropractor is good at improving joint motion that is affected by the injury 3) Even if you do nothing 80% of the pain should subside within a week. If it doesn’t have someone look at it 4) Regular doctors tend to solve these kind of problems with some product from the pharmacy when a chiropractic adjustment could work just as well. To learn the rest of the Doctor’s best tips you’re going to have to click that podcast button and listen to Dr. Fitness explain everything. If you missed this show live you missed some funny stuff like: Lee sharing his opinion where to find the best chiropractors. Adam’s new gadget of the week which is a heart rate monitor that fits on your hand instead of around your chest. He loved it. I thought you looked a little like Michael Jackson. Lee went to the movies and saw Denzel Washington’s new Spike Lee movie Inside Man and had 6 screaming kids under 5 near him. this inspired him to solve the movie industry’s problem with kids at inappropriate movies. Other things we talked about were: Adam helping a caller with strategies to run a half marathon, Lee sent in his taxes to the IRS, we mentioned the usual suspects…the Nutriton Twins and Hungry Girl. Check out our blog at www.weightlossradio.blogspot.com for more tips about weight loss and Dr. Shafran’s analysis of all things health and fitness. Everyone who listens knows that Dr. Fitness and the Fat Guy is the funniest weight loss and fitness radio show on the internet.
This week the Doctor gives you the skinny on the 4 most common weight loss methods and why they don’t works and what you should do instead.
Here are his tips.
#4. If you’re thinking about joining a gym and you’ve never done it before then you’ll have better results if you find a partner to help you lose weight instead. #3. Before you spend thousands of dollars on a treadmill or another large piece of exercise equipment spend fifty bucks on a heart rate monitor which will help you a lot more. #2. Don’t add another diet book to your diet book collection just eat smaller portions 25% less per meal should do it. #1. I know you’re tempted to try those diet pills, the commercials are very persuasive. Don’t do it. diet pills don’t address the behaviors that cuased you to put on the weight in the first place. Try to modify one behavior that’s causing you to put on weight instead!
Check out our podcast of our radio show here. In additon to the tips, you’ll hear a hilarious interview with Stephanie Triplett of the Mommy Chronicles radio show and book. She is awesome and her book and radio show are awesome. If you are a mom click here to learn more about the Mommy Chronicles.
Also a special thank you to Dale Basescu and Jocelyn Harrison our other guests last night. Dale was a world class triathlete and is currently an actor and Jocelyn is an executive at Star 94 one of Atlanta’s top radio stations. They shared some strategies about how people at different fitness levels can work out together.
