Authors Esther Blum and Dr. Melina Jampolis Turn Up The Heat Plus Eating Well Magazine’s, Nicci Micco, Discusses Food Allegies

On tonight’s show, Nicci Micco, Senior Editor with Eating Well Magazine (One of Dr. Fitness and The Fat Guy’s Favorite Magazines), joined us to discuss an article in the upcoming edition about food allergies. Nicci said that any food can cause an allergic reaction but 90% of the time one of the Big 8 Foods is the trigger…Do you want to know what those Big 8 foods are? I bet you do… They are: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish or shellfish. How’s that for some good information. Eating Well magazine is a great resource for great information about food and eating well. I promise you that you will not find better photographs in any magazine, I don’t care about the genre. Did you know that Dr. Melina is a board certified internist and physician nutrition specialist (one of only 200 people in the country)? Pretty impressive. Dr. Melina has been making the rounds on all the shows like Regis and Kelly and our show. She has released a line new protein bars and she is going to the Emmys to share her bars with those celebrities who need a protein boost. We tried the bars and gave them two big thumbs up….I loved the Cinnamon Apple and The Fat Guy loved them all…what a surprise!!!! Remember we are now on every morning in Michigan. On radio station WKNW. They asked us to create a Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy “Wellness Minute.” So now a new Wellness Minute runs on that station each morning at around 7:40. Each Wellness Minute features the doctor and I going over 5 of his best tips on a given wellness subject like: losing weight, getting in shape, living a healthy lifestyle, etc. We’re working on ways to make those tips available to all our listeners. If you have a favorite radio station that you think would benefit from our Wellness Minutes send them an email telling them about it and who knows maybe you can hear us everyday too.

Also once again, I need you to please do me a favor. My nine year kid Max made his radio debut in his new show “Kid Power Radio.” This is a great show for your kids. It is kind of like a kids version of David Spade’s “Showbiz Show” on Comedy Central or Entertainment Tonight mixed in with a little Wayne’s World. Max recaps the week in entertainment and gives his take and review of what he liked and didn’t like on TV, at the movies, video games, in books and in music and even restaurant reviews. On tonight’s show, Doctor Fitness and the Fat Guy get the skinny about how to stick to your Top New Year’s resolutions from Discovery Network’s Fit TV’s “Diet Doctor” Dr. Melina Jampolis and Atlanta’s top Stop Smoking expert Dr. Varada Divgi.

Dr. Melina took time out from promoting her brand new book “The No Time To Lose Diet” to share some of her top weight loss tips. Be sure to check her out this Friday, January 12 on the Regis and Kelly show. She is also a regular contributor to www.vivmag.com, the first digital only, interactive women’s lifestyle magazine. Dr. Melina is one of only 200 physician nutrition specialist, so she knows what she talking about when it comes to losing weight. She said her said her top tip for our listeners who want to lose weight would be to never have an all or nothing mentality when it comes to your diet. Avoid super restrictive diets that require you to radically change how you normally eat. She said that just sets you up to fail. We also had on Dr. Varada who passionately spoke about the importance of quitting smoking. Dr. Varada has seen first hand the damaging effects from smoking during her decades working as a pulmonologist. She was the first pediatric pulmonologist in Atlanta in 1981. Now she runs the Smoking and Tobacco Addiction Relief Center in Atlanta. She uses a low level laser therapy to help people quit smoking. Dr. Fitness had some really good tips about how to get the most out of your workout in 2007. Here are a few of Dr. Fitness’ tips…Number 1, get your workout done early in the day. Number 2, pick an activity that you love to do. And Number 3, get a partner…you will slip up, lose interest and have setbacks…a partner watches your back to get you back on track. There was a lot more from Dr. Fitness, so you will have to listen to the show to find out all the rest of these great tips. And I’m sure he’ll post all the tips on his blog.

So check out the Fat Guys “Gyms Are A Rip Off” blog and submit your gym horror story. It seems that people are frustrated by the broken promises their gym gave them when they joined and also they are usually disappointed when their hometown gym gets bought out by a large national corporate chain. Service usually goes downhill fast.
