He breaks through the health information overload and confusion with current health and fitness news, resources, articles and links to help you make informed decisions. On tonight’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy get the skinny about nordic walking, trekking and other hiking terms I have never heard of, from the makers of the finest walking poles, Leki. Suzanne Nottingham joined us from somewhere high in the mountains to tell us all about Leki, pronounced Lake-ee, by the way. Suzanne shared lots of reasons to add these amazing walking and hiking poles to your walk or hike. They keep you more stable on the trail and they give you a better workout on the street. You will burn more calories and definitely stand out from the crowd when you whip your Leki’s out. And as a bonus you can pick up trash to beautify the trails as you go….not really. Next up we had on Sweet Susi May from FitSugar. As usual, Susi had lots of great diet and health tips. first she informed the Fat Guy which restaurants to avoid in the food court and which fast food places are safe to indulge in. She said to avoid the cinnamon rolls and and the fried foods. She says she even brings healthy snacks with her when she goes to the mall. Then she and Dr Fitness got into a spirited game of who knows more compound exercises. They both agreed that compound exercises (lunges, squats, etc.) are the way to go for faster, more effective workouts. For more great tips about exercise and fitness every single day, please go to her blog www.fitsugar.com

Next we had a return engagement with Vicky Sorenson, the creator of the Fitness Challenge. The Fitness Challenge is a great game where you make a fitness wager with someone for 8 weeks. The game allows you to easily keep track of your progress and the winner not only gets into better shape and drops a few pounds but they might also get an ipod or some other great prize. You see you make a wager with your competition (it could be your spouse, your child or even a friend who lives in another state) to make it a little more interesting. Vicky said that some local communities have adopted her game as way to encourage healthier living. And Vicky herslef lost 60 pounds playing the game! For more information go to her website www.fitnesschallenge.com. You can pick up the game there or at Amazon. This is a great way to get your family fit check it out!

As usual John was battling a cold, but he always comes with his A game and he had a huge list of must have fitness products. Social Diva, Peg Samuel, Sweet Susi May More Sweet Than Sucralose, and J.R. Loses 44 lbs. Playing With His “Wii”

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Last night, I saw the future of fitness, and his name is J.R. Cook….or is it the “Wii”…..Nintendo’s answer to childhood obesity. J.R. was one of our guests who lost 44 pounds by exercising with a Nintendo Wii video game. He’s trying to lose 80 pounds so he’s half way there. So please go to www.WiiWeightLossPlan.com and check in on him and give him some encouragement to reach his goal. Between the Wii Sports and another game called “Dance, Dance, Revolution,” which incorporates dance steps, we are leveling the playing field of obesity and giving kids more activities utilizing computers to become more active! I always hear my friends say how kids do not play outside like we did when we were kids and that is why they are overweight….Well my friends, this is a different era and we need more things like these games to keep kids active!!!!

Social Diva and Hottie Peg Samuel joined us from L.A….as she was walking into Versace on Rodeo Drive. Peg is the founder and president of SocialDiva.com,a website that keeps you in the know about what to do and where to go.
They personally approve the events or promotions to be diva worthy, and they will only send you info about the events that we would attend ourselves…like the best yoga class in Atlanta, London, Miami, and New York….or Peg would say “New Yawk”….if you are health conscious, sign up for their awesome free newsletter!!!! You will be hearing a lot more from SocialDiva.com on our show!!!!

And what would Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy show be without Sweet Susi May, the brilliant and beautiful editor of FitSugar.com Susi shared lots of tips tonight. She had tips about about gym etiquette, she explained the importance of stretching, she even gave away the 4 most important things you should be doing everyday if you want to live a long life and most importantly she told our listeners an easy way to win a brand new FREE Polar F11 Heart Rate Monitor. If you want a chance to win the Polar Heart Rate monitor all you have to do is go to Fit Sugar and comment on one of the gazillion blog posts they have on the site and you will be entered to win. I think that’s what she said, she talks fast so go to www.FitSugar.com for the exact rules.

Before I get into the show notes I’d like to give a very special shout out to Drea from Indiana she is the winner of a great exercise DVD. She sent in a very kind email sharing her weight loss story - she has lost 160 pounds  by listening to the Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy radio show… Her weight loss probably had more to do with the eating and exercise habits she changed but she did say our show was her favorite to work out to. Great job Drea, keep up the good work and anyone else who wants to win a free exercise dvd please blog about us and email us your weight loss story - it could be a plateau you’re trying to break through where Dr Fitness can help or it can be a success story. Either way you can win!

Now on with the show…
On tonight’s show, Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy get the skinny about where a girl can go to have some fun with the original Social Diva, Peg Samuel. Peg kindly called us right in the middle of her shopping day from in front of the Versace store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California. No matter how much the Fat Guy begged Peg would not bring him back those XL Versace sweatpants he’s had his eye on. Peg did share lots of insight into what makes a Social Diva and why www.SocialDiva.com is the perfect solution for ladies (and smart guys) who are looking for more action. At the Social Diva website you don’t get only the skinny on where the latest hot spot is you can also learn where to shop, where to eat and other important things. So check them out for yourself at www.SocialDiva.com and learn how you can bring out your inner Diva!

And what would Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy show be without Sweet Susi May, the brilliant and beautiful editor of FitSugar. Susi shared lots of tips tonight.

And our last guest was JR, the guy behind the Wii Weight Loss Plan. He has lost over 40 pounds just playing video games. He’s my hero. Not just any video games though Wii Games…mostly Wii Sports. He especially likes the boxing, but he plays it all every day for at least 30 vigorous minutes at a time. He’s trying to lose 80 pounds so he’s half way there. So please go to www.WiiWeightLossPlan.com and check in on him and give him some encouragement to reach his goal. See you don’t have to go to the gym to lose weight.. just find something you like to do and stick with it.

The Doctor was featured in the Atlanta Journal Constitution newspaper this week click on this link and it will take you to his article on how get the most out of your workout with a friend or something like that. If this link is bad go to www.ajc.com and search for Dr. Adam Shafran and it will come up.

The Doctor had some interesting wellness tips in his latest installment of …Dr Fitness’ “Things You Can Do Today” series. Tonight it was Everything You Wanted To Know About Liposuction. Here are a few of Dr. Fitness’ tips on how to tell if you are a good candidate for lipo. Number 1, should be in pretty good shape. Number 2, people with firm, elastic skin get better results - if your skinny is baggy then it will remain baggy after the lipo. And Number 3, if you have diabetes, a heart condition or poor circulation you should probably avoid this procedure. Dr Fitness had a few more tips and he gave lots more detail in these tips but you’ll have to listen to get them.

Kathie Larkin was back in the studio with big news she has passed her personal training certification and is ready for business. So if you are looking for a personal trainer who talks the talk and walks the walk go to her website and contact her. You know Kathie as the host of Real Savvy Moms.  Real Savvy Moms is a great show for moms that is available on most Public Broadcasting Stations around the US and online. Remember Kathie is one of the top feet and legs model’s out there… she is so hot she got to be a body double for Alyssa Milano in that Veet commercial that is on TV 24 hours a day. Be sure to check out Kathie’s website www.getkathie.com. Also check out her hosting skills on www.RealSavvyMoms.com.

Remember we are now on every morning in Michigan. On radio station WKNW. They asked us to create a Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy “Wellness Minute.” So now a new Wellness Minute runs on that station each morning at around 7:40. Each Wellness Minute features the doctor and I going over 5 of his best tips on a given wellness subject like: losing weight, getting in shape, living a healthy lifestyle, etc. We’re working on ways to make those tips available to all our listeners. If you have a favorite radio station that you think would benefit from our Wellness Minutes send them an email telling them about it and who knows maybe you can hear us everyday too.

Also once again, I need you to please do me a favor. My nine year kid Max made his radio debut in his new show “Kid Power Radio.” This is a great show for your kids. It is kind of like a kids version of David Spade’s “Showbiz Show” on Comedy Central or Entertainment Tonight mixed in with a little Wayne’s World. Max recaps the week in entertainment and gives his take and review of what he liked and didn’t like on TV, at the movies, video games, in books and in music and even restaurant reviews. Please go to his site and download the show for your kid. And if your kid sends Max an email he’ll read it on the air next week. The show can be found at www.kidpowerradio.com and you can email Max at RadioStarMax at Yahoo.com. Your encouragement is greatly appreciated.  Thanks to you this show is rocketing up the charts!!!
