Want To Get Paid To Eat Healthy and Exercise? Work At IBM.

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

As an incentive to keep you healthy companies in America are now following Italy’s lead that we blogged about awhile ago and paying their employees to lose weight.

According to WCBS-TV…

Not only does Stefanie Chiras’ company pay her to develop computer memory sub-systems, but a little extra to eat right.

“Having work sponsor it makes you kind of feel like someone is buying into It,” said Chiras. “And then certainly the cash at the end of the day is an incentive.”

Chiras works for IBM. She gets an additional $150 in her paycheck for tracking her eating habits online and losing weight.

“When I reach for that next unhealthy thing, I think, oh, but I have to log it in to the tool.”

If you don’t work for IBM and want to use an online tool like theirs check out Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy’s super duper online weight loss and diet program. You can track everything and get the support you need from our members and us. Plus as a bonus we give away prizes to our members just for loggin on.

New Study Says Parents of Fat Kids Are in Denial.

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

Just as everyones perception of portion sizes have been distorted it seems that our perception of what fat people look like has also been distorted. A recent study by Dr. Matthew M. Davis, a University of Michigan professor of pediatrics and internal medicine shows that parents are the last to realize that they’re kid should drop a few pounds.

Here’s a tip from the Fat Guy to determine if you have a fat kid - if you are buying clothes for your kid and it has an L or XL then you’re kid is probably overweight. I don’t know if you knew this but L stands for Large and XL stands for Extra Large. you see that is not just the size of the shirt it is also the size of the person wearing the shirt.

Here’s a recap of the results of the study… The Michigan researchers said that, too, suggests parents underestimate their children’s weight.

If your kid is overweight here are three easy things you can do…Weight Loss Tip 1-stop bring junk food into the house. The last time I checked kids don’t do the shopping and most kids are not going to waste their allowance on Pop Tarts. Weight Loss Tip 2-don’t let your kid weasel out of PE make sure your kid does some physical activity every day. Make him walk the dog, make her play outside whether they want to or not. And Weight Loss Tip 3-no liquid calories - more water more watered down fruit juice. That’s pretty much all they should be drinking.

The Doctor had to bring some great eating tips because of the quality of the guests we had on and he did. So we had another installment of …Dr Fitness’ “Things You Can Do Today” To Lose Weight Tomorrow. Here are a few of Dr. Fitness’ secrets about how to eat healthy when you go out to eat…Number 1, always get half of your food to go. Do this before they even bring it out to the table. Restaurant portions are so large you can get half to go and not even notice it. Number 2, if you are going to get a dessert just get one and share that around the table. And Number 3, start eating the low calorie healthy foods first and slowly work your way to the meats and starches. Hopefully you’ll get full before you get to those higher calorie foods and stop eating. There were a couple more tips from Dr. Fitness, but you’ll have to listen to the podcast or go to his blog to get the rest.

Kathie made sure she was in the studio so she could talk with Jack Lalanne. She’ll be away for the next couple of weeks as she films her Real Savvy Moms show in hot spots around the world. Remember she is one of the top feet and legs model’s out there… she is so hot she got to be a body double for Alyssa Milano a few weeks ago. Be sure to check out Kathie’s website www.getkathie.com. Also check her out on www.RealSavvyMoms.com.

Also once again, I need you to please do me a favor. My nine year kid Max made his radio debut in his new show “Kid Power Radio.” This is a great show for your kids. It is kind of like a kids version of David Spade’s “Showbiz Show” on Comedy Central. Max recaps the week in entertainment and gives his take and review of what he liked and didn’t like on TV, at the movies in books and in music. Please go to his site and download the show for your kid. And if your kid sends Max an email he’ll read it on the air next week. The show can be found at www.kidpower.libsyn.com and you can email Max at RadioStarMax@Yahoo.com. Your encouragement is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Britney Spears Shaves Head To Get On Dr. Fitness and The Fat Guy!!!!

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Rumor has it!!! Britney is crying out for attention….from the Fat Guy!!!! Ok, maybe not but if she needed a hug from Dr. Fitness, I would give her one!!! We had a Canadian Love Fest on our radio show last night since both our guests came from the Great White North!!!! We first had on Canadian Diet Guru, Dr. Stanley Bernstein, affectionately known as “Dr. B.” He was a lot of fun and discussed his philosophy of helping thousands of people lose weight. I liked him because he is one physician who is fighting the good fight against obesity without crap diet pills and liposuction but with good old fashion Behavior Modifications and “Tough Love.” He has a bunch of clinics all over Canada and is now moving into the states with places in Florida and Virginia. Check out his book, “Dr. B’s Simply Sensational Diet Recipe Book” and his web site at www.drbdiet.com

Our second guest was Canadian Hot Mom Sharon Mann. She has a show on Discovery Channel’s FitTV called “In Shape With Sharon Mann.” She was a Four Time Canadian Aerobics Champ and now she’s a fitness TV star and recently put out a DVD called “The Works With Sharon Mann.” I haven’t watched it but she has a real peppy personality and was a lot of fun on our show. Check out her web site at www.SharonMann.com
Listen to our complete show at http://weightlossradio.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=188945

I was completely blown away yesterday by a new….I can’t even call it a gym because it is more like a resort here in Georgia. “Lifetime Fitness” built a facility like I have never seen before. First of all it looks like a fitness palace for the entire family….marble everywhere, clean, clean, clean, fitness equipment beyond the eyes can see….indoor/outdoor pools with water slides, lane pools for the exerciser, lots of Jacuzzis, saunas….I am telling you this place is “The Greatest Fitness Facility” I have seen in the states.

Dr. Fitness and The Fat Guy appeared today on a radio show based out of Chicago called “Conversations with Beth & Dan”. They were awesome hosts and Beth Aldrich also has a TV show called “For Her Information,” magazine, newsletter and you can check it out at www.forherinformation.com We had fun or I should say I had fun making fun of the Fat Guy.

Which Is The Fattest And Fittest State In The Union?

Friday, September 8th, 2006

Mississippi is the fattest state and Colorado is the fittest according to a study done by CalorieLab. Maybe I can turn the tide in Alabama which was not far behind in Fattest State Competition

CalorieLab has just released a list of the fattest states in the country for 2006. Their research reveals that Mississippi is the fattest state, where approximately 29.5% of the population is obese based on a three year statistical average. If the statistics are extended to include the overweight population, as well as those who are obese, the results show that over 2/3 (67.3%) of the state’s residents are either overweight or obese; Mississippi is the only state to have that dubious honor. Following close behind in the obesity count are Alabama, West Virginia, Louisiana and Kentucky. Colorado is the leanest state, followed in no particular order by Hawaii, Montana and a handful of the New England states.

The data was gathered from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System database from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, which reveals some very interesting information about some of the factors that contribute to obesity, such as diet, nutrition and physical activity levels. For example, only 16% of adults in Mississippi eat the recommended 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, compared to 29% in California and 30% in Vermont.
