Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John-Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham made a triumphant return last night. Robert Plant’s torso is no longer exposed but I heard he sounded brilliant!!! I think the Fat Guy was a big Led Zep fan back in the day but it is very hard for him to remember anything form the late 70’s and early 80’s. Even though he can’t remember that far back he did find this great product called “Forkchops,” a combination of chopsticks and a fork, a perfect holiday gift…..for me to give him!!!!! On tonight’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy get the skinny about nordic walking, trekking and other hiking terms I have never heard of, from the makers of the finest walking poles, Leki. Next up we had on Sweet Susi May from FitSugar. As usual, Susi had lots of great diet and health tips. first she informed the Fat Guy which restaurants to avoid in the food court and which fast food places are safe to indulge in. She said to avoid the cinnamon rolls and and the fried foods. She says she even brings healthy snacks with her when she goes to the mall. Then she and Dr Fitness got into a spirited game of who knows more compound exercises. They both agreed that compound exercises (lunges, squats, etc.) are the way to go for faster, more effective workouts. Next we had a return engagement with Vicky Sorenson, the creator of the Fitness Challenge. The Fitness Challenge is a great game where you make a fitness wager with someone for 8 weeks. The game allows you to easily keep track of your progress and the winner not only gets into better shape and drops a few pounds but they might also get an ipod or some other great prize. You see you make a wager with your competition (it could be your spouse, your child or even a friend who lives in another state) to make it a little more interesting. Vicky said that some local communities have adopted her game as way to encourage healthier living. And Vicky herslef lost 60 pounds playing the game! As usual John was battling a cold, but he always comes with his A game and he had a huge list of must have fitness products. Dr Fitness had some fitness tips to help keep you on track to lose weight or at least maintain your weight this holiday season. First, make healthy substitutions in your holiday recipes. Each Wellness Minute features the doctor and I going over 5 of his best tips on a given wellness subject like: losing weight, getting in shape, living a healthy lifestyle, etc. We’re working on ways to make those tips available to all our listeners. What is Amy Winehouse, Miley Cyrus,and Mike Golic Doing For Thanksgiving?

I have no idea!!!! but I hope Miley Cyrus keeps on singing since my soon-to-be stepdaughter, Rebecca, LOVES her. Former Pro Football Star Mike Golic is a great radio announcer and thanks for admitting to using steroids…10 years after you retired from football!!! I am sure you have helped many aspiring young lineman choose not to use steroids. It’s plain and simple… Steroids are for cheaters!!!! I hope Amy Winehouse stays away from drugs and just as important, cigarettes, since she has such an amazing voice….what a talent!!!

Here are some of my tips for those who are trying to help there close ones quit smoking:

1. help lighten their stress levels. help the quitter with a few chores like watching their kids, cooking — whatever will help of quitting

2.Don’t take the quitter’s grouchiness personally during his or her nicotine withdrawal. The symptoms usually dissipate in about 2 weeks.

3. Studies show that most people try to quit smoking 5 to 7 times before they succeed. If a relapse happens, think of it as being one step closer to succeeding and not failing!!!!

Brad and Angelina Never Struggle As Emotional Eaters Struggle Most At Dieting and Weightloss!

Get ready for this emotional eaters….like me…..when we eat feeling lonely or blue, tend to lose the least amount of weight and have the hardest time keeping it off. Doesn’t that stink! Heather Niemeier, an obesity researcher at The Miriam Hospital and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, said in a statement. “We found that the more people report eating in response to thoughts and feelings, the less weight they lost,”
The study included 286 overweight men and women who were participating in a behavioral weight loss program.

A second group consisted of more than 3,300 adults who have lost at least 30 pounds and kept it off for at least one year.Niemeier and her team analyzed responses to an eating inventory questionnaire.They focused on people who ate because of external influences, such as people who eat too much at parties, and people who ate because of internal influences, such as feeling lonely or as a reward.

What they found is that the more a person ate for internal reasons, the less weight they lost over time.”Our results suggest that we need to pay more attention to eating triggered by emotions or thoughts as they clearly play a significant role in weight loss,” Niemeier said.

So, what can you do if emotional eating is a problem?
Make a conscious effort to become more aware of how and why you may be using food or what is going on around you while you are eating. Develop new skills for mood regulation. If you need support to do so, find a professional. The focus should be on improving your emotional and physical well-being not just weight loss.

We heard from the delightful Dr Carolyn Dean who talked about her new book “The Magnesium Miracle” Dr. Carolyn Dean is a medical doctor and naturopathic doctor assisting individuals with all types of illness at any stage or severity.  She is a little like House in that she specializes in managing and healing often misdiagnosed and chronic conditions such as digestive problems, hormone imbalance, recurring infection, irritable bowel syndrome, widespread inflammation, allergies, anxiety, fibromyalgia, mood swings, chronic fatigue syndrome, fluid retention, lost vitality, and other conditions that are not satisfactorily controlled. In The Magnesium Miracle, Dr. Dean explains the vital role that magnesium plays in the control of many serious ailments from painful muscle spasms and bladder problems to traumatic brain injury and complications of pregnancy and childbirth. Her interview was very informative and entertaining as she teased the Fat Guy relentlessly and at times teamed up with Dr Fitness to really put the Fat Guy in his place. “Super Man”, Christopher Bergland, Shares “The Athlete’s Way” To Exercise & Sweet Susi May Shares “Shocking” News Even For Lindsay Lohan!

I have been enjoying the heck out of Christopher Bergland’s awesome new book called “The Athlete’s Way.” Christopher is an amazing athlete who has accomplished some astonishing athletic endeavors like holding the Guinness World Record for treadmill running (153.76 miles in 24 hours.) He has completed The Triple Iron Man, a 7.2-mile swim, 336-mile bike, followed by a 78.6-mile run (done consecutively) in a record breaking time of 38 hours and 46 minutes and won the race three times…and a bunch of other amazing accomplishments. So when he came on the show last night, we learned what goes on in the mind of a guy who can literally exercise all day and all night. Listen to the interview and you will find Chris to be a very modest guy and he has taken those experiences and coupled them with some of the brain science he learned from his Brain Surgeon dad to write a book that can help sedentary people stick to their exercise program. On tonight’s show, Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy get the skinny about how to stay compliant in your exercise program from Christopher Bergland, author of the book “The Athlete’s Way” Christopher is an ultra-endurance athlete who owns the 24 hour treadmill distance record of almost 154 miles as well as the record holder in the triple Ironman. His ultra-endurance records are amazing and he has taken those experiences and coupled them with some of the brain science he learned from his Brain Surgeon dad to write a book that can help sedentary people stick to their exercise program. Some of the tips we talked about include developing an athletic mindset. This includes setting goals, getting inspiration, monitoring your mood and using positive imagery. The Fat Guy announced that his food journal is now on Twitter.  Food journals are great ways to lose weight and the Fat Guy is always trying crazy things in order to lose 20 pounds. You know Kathie as the host of Real Savvy Moms.  Real Savvy Moms is a great show for hot moms, fat moms, all kinds of moms and is available on most PBS’ around the US and online. Remember we are now on every morning in Michigan. On radio station WKNW. They asked us to create a Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy “Wellness Minute.” So now a new Wellness Minute runs on that station each morning at around 7:40. Each Wellness Minute features the doctor and I going over 5 of his best tips on a given wellness subject like: losing weight, getting in shape, living a healthy lifestyle, etc. We’re working on ways to make those tips available to all our listeners. If you have a favorite radio station that you think would benefit from our Wellness Minutes send them an email telling them about it and who knows maybe you can hear us everyday too.

Also once again, I need you to please do me a favor. My kid Max has been doing a radio show called “Kid Power Radio” for awhile now and you should check it out. Tiffany from The Daily Candy called his family friendly radio show “Hilarious!” This is a great show for your kids. It is kind of like a kids version of David Spade’s “Showbiz Show” on Comedy Central or Entertainment Tonight mixed in with a little Wayne’s World. Max recaps the week in entertainment and gives his take and review of what he liked and didn’t like on TV, at the movies, video games, in books and in music and even restaurant reviews. He just came back from Japan where he saw the first personal trainer/cell phone. This device is part pedometer, part heart rate monitor, part phone. the only thing it doesn’t do is wipe the sweat off your forehead.
