In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some ways to burn some Thanksgiving Day calories. Start the morning off speed cleaning your home. Cleaning your house at a fast pace with holiday music blaring is a great way to burn lots of calories and get a clean home. Volunteer to feed the homeless. Putting food on plates doesn’t seem like it burns a lot of calories but feeding the homeless requires a lot more than that. Someone has to lift the boxes of food and move them to the tables – it might as well be you. Run a charity road race before the big meal. On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on our good friend the legendary fitness trainer Denise Austin. Denise has a new exercise dvd that you must add to your collection. Denise Austin: Best Bun & Leg Shapers. Look for some BootCamp dvds from Denise soon that include kettle bell style exercises. Denise said that exercise is the best preventative medicine. And that you are the architect for your own body. Denise shared some great tips for Thanksgiving Day – she said to laugh a lot, cook some healthy choices and go for a family walk later in the day. She also talked about how she survived Halloween and how she sometimes embarrasses her kids by exercising during commercials while they watch TV together. Denise also talked about her love of exercise balls, dumbbells and pedometers.  She said the best way out of a holiday funk is to start moving – 10-12 minutes of exercise in the morning will jumpstart your day. Challenge Number 1: You’re feeling isolated and having a hard time finding a partner because everyone is so busy.

Solution: try reconnecting with your friends or better yet get your kids involved.

Challenge Number 2: You are in a negative spiral that may not end until January. You are close to giving up.

Solution: Restart your program right now. Don’t wait until your new years resolutions to get back on track do something today to help yourself.

Challenge Number 3: Weather is getting bad, making you want to exercise outside even less.

Solution: Play group activities outside or go to the gym. December is a notoriously slow time at the gym so you can exercise there in a climate controlled environment.

Challenge Number 4: you fell completely off the healthy eating habit.

Solution: Avoid the emotional eating the holidays sometimes cause. Get back on track as soon as you can. And remember it is not all or nothing. Try just eating a little healthy today to get you back on track. Instead of eating a huge dessert try having just a bite. Remember something is better than nothing.
