In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy shares tips on how your diet can effect your bone health. Building strong bones is important if you want to avoid getting osteoporosis.  A recent study found that in Asian countries they don’t consume the amount of dairy we consume here yet they have a low incidence of osteoporosis. The Asian diet consists of low acid foods like fruits and vegetables that help the body consume the calcium they get through the foods they eat. The thinking is that because we consume so much acidic animal protein here we are having a difficult time absorbing the calcium and that is why we suffer from osteoporosis at greater rates. So for good bone health and strong bones to prevent osteoporosis try a low acid diet that is high in fruits and veggies and low in meat. Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share Dr Fitness’ favorite recipe for Edamame Soup. Somehow the Fat Guy missed the memo that the edamame bean is really just a soy bean. But give it some exotic Asian name and you can charge more for it at restaurants. Well the edamame /soy bean is packed with nutrients, proteins and omega 3 fats. It even has calcium and other essential vitamins as well. So an easy way to add some of this healthy goodness into your diet is to make a soup out of them. Make up some vegetable broth, throw in some shelled edamames, some ginger and more of your favorite spices and veggies and you’ve got yourself a hearty healthy meal. The Doctor had to bring some great workout tips because of the quality of the guests we had on and he did. So we had another installment of …Dr Fitness’ “Things You Can Do Today” To Lose Weight Tomorrow. Here are a few of Dr. Fitness’ secrets about how to avoid calorie traps at the salad bar…Number 1, avoid the muffins, candy yogurt toppings and crunchy salad toppings. Number 2, avoid the mayo based salad dressings. And Number 3, watch out for the cream based soups – stick to the broth based or tomato based soups with lots of veggies in them. He had a few more tips but you’ll have to listen to get them.

Each Wellness Minute features the doctor and I going over 5 of his best tips on a given wellness subject like: losing weight, getting in shape, living a healthy lifestyle, etc. We’re working on ways to make those tips available to all our listeners. Also once again, I need you to please do me a favor. My nine year kid Max made his radio debut in his new show “Kid Power Radio.” This is a great show for your kids. It is kind of like a kids version of David Spade’s “Showbiz Show” on Comedy Central. Max recaps the week in entertainment and gives his take and review of what he liked and didn’t like on TV, at the movies in books and in music. Please go to his site and download the show for your kid. And if your kid sends Max an email he’ll read it on the air next week. The show can be found at www.kidpower.libsyn.com and you can email Max at RadioStarMax at Yahoo.com. Your encouragement is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
