In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share some of their best fitness tips for kids as the weather gets colder. As the weather chills your kids are going to have a little less energy than they did in the warmer weather months – especially in the Northeast. So don’t be like the Fat Guy and wait until Spring to exercise again – embrace the cold and start doing cold weather activities like: indoor exercise classes at the gym, mall walking, indoor swimming, etc. And as the snow begins to fall make a snow man, build a snow fort, shovel your neighbors driveway, etc.  Listen right now to hear Dr Fitness’ tips. Walk Away Your Excess Pounds

by Dr.Fitness on October 24, 2005

Another study recommending walking as the exercise of choice for losing weight.

The successful were able to walk for 50 minutes a day for 5 days each week. Remember you just can’t stroll along at a leisurely pace.

You have to walk at a pretty good pace…Like you’re trying to get to the Krispy Kreme before the “Hot Doughnuts Now” light turns off.

“Overweight people who lost and kept off 25 to 30 pounds walked briskly for about 50 minutes a day five days a week, according to the longest clinical study ever done on exercise’s effect on weight loss and maintenance.

The study was presented here last week at the annual meeting of the Obesity Society, an organization of weight-loss professionals.”
