On tonight’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy learn all about how to Eat for Health and Disease Proof Your Child from Dr Joel Fuhrman. Dr Fitness has a new health expert crush and it is with Dr Fuhrman who had some really good information to share today. Dr Fuhrman believes in eating more quality calories from foods that are high in micronutrients rather than processed foods.

He says that dietary ignorance is the cause of so much needless suffering. He explains what your kid should not be eating (hint: Happy Meals and Lunchables are on the list) and what they should be eating more of. The good doctor said that what we eat as children and teens is a major cause of what makes us ill as adults. Parents should create an environment of health that gets rid of all processed foods and features reall foods like nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables that are filled with micronutrients. If families would eat more vegetables soups, robust salads and fruits everyone would weigh less and live longer healthier lives.

He believes that most people are literally starved of micronutirients and that is why we suffer from food addictions and toxic hunger which ultimately leads to diseases like cancer.

He also explained the misconception about eating more protein. People eat way too much protein from animals and not enough from other sources. He feels we really have to get back to basics and prepare healthy foods/meals a couple of times a week then eat them throughout the week. His books explain in plain English exactly what to do and how to do it.

His books Eat for Health and Disease Proof Your Child are highly recommended. To learn more about Dr Fuhrman, his books and his great community please go to his website www.DrFuhrman.com.

On tonight’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy learn all about how to lose weight when we are really ready to make a change with JoLynn Braley, founder of The Fit Shack. The Fit Shack is a great website and blog that talks about fitness for the mind, body and spirit or in other words conscious fitness.

JoLynn’s experience and study has shown her that overweight is only a symptom of an underlying issue and if you continue to try to cure the symptom of overweight by forcing yourself to diet and exercise while ignoring the inner problem that drives your overeating then you will never be at peace with food and your weight. A band aid cannot be applied to the symptom of overweight which is why there are so many repeat dieters - you must heal the inner issue that is causing the overeating and unhealthy lifestyle habits if you wish to lose the weight and keep it off.

JoLynn takes a mindful approach to fitness and health by keeping the focus on living with awareness in order to avoid mindless eating. To learn more please go to her website  www.thefitshack.com And JoLynn has been kind enough to offer one lucky listener/reader the opportunity to work with her with a complimentary weight loss strategy session. On tonight’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy learn how to wear our life well with great health and wellness tips from New York Times bestselling author and TV star Marilu Henner. Marilu shared her personal story about why she got into fitness over 20 years ago. you see her parents died when she was very young and that motivated her to change her unhealthy habits. So she began a quest for what really is healthy. She did tons and tons of research and through her own research and experimentation she developed her own program. When she realized that medical doctors typically have only 4 hours of nutritional studies during their entire medical school training she knew that she better start thinking for herself rathter than blindly trusting these so called doctors who have less knowledge about nutrition than she does.

Marilu said that when it comes to changing lifelong unhealthy habits there are turkeys or weiners. Turkeys quit cold turkey and Weiners slowly ween themsleves from the bad habit. She said she would pick a bad habit (like says drinking soda) and tell herslef that she was just quitting for 3 weeks in order to modify her behavior. And when those 21 days passed she realized she didn’t have to drink anymore soda.

Marilu gave her 3 best tips to live a much healthier and happier life.

  1. No dairy.
  2. No red meat.
  3. Break a sweat for at least 10 minutes every day.

But her bottom line tip was to be your own doctor and know your own body.

She might be starring on Broadway or on TV but Marilu is really passionate about health and she has created a wonderful online community that really benefits from her wisdom and passion. To learn more about her latest book Wear Your Life Well and her online community please go to her website www.marilu.com
